Home World Championship warm-up: Austria’s women lose to Hungary in Budapest
Austria’s women’s national ice hockey team suffered a narrow 0:1 defeat to Hungary in their first warm-up game for the home World Championship in Klagenfurt. From 21 to 27 April 2024, Austria will be on a mission to earn promotion to the Top Division at the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women´s World Championship Division I, Group A. On Saturday from 15:00, the ÖEHV selection will have the chance to gain revenge against the Hungarians.

Although both teams played at a very high pace, it was evident that they are still fine-tuning their coordination. Both sides lacked clear-cut chances in front of goal and were only rarely able to create traffic in front of the net.
The score remained goalless after two periods. Hungary eventually capitalised on a power play in the final period to secure the 1:0 final score.
The two nations, who will meet on the penultimate matchday of the Division IA World Championship, will face each other again tomorrow, Saturday, at 15:00.
Emma Mörtl, Player of the Match: “It feels good to be back on European ice after around two years. We are currently trying out a lot, especially when it comes to the line combinations. If we continue to experiment and follow our game plan, we will see what happens in the second game. The mood in the team is certainly very good. We all support one another.”

2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women´s World Championship 2024
From 21 to 27 April 2024, Klagenfurt will host the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women´s World Championship 2024. Austria will face Hungary, France, Norway, the Netherlands and South Korea for promotion to the Top Division. Following 2009 and 2017, it will be the third Women’s World Championship on Austrian ice.
