Hockey is Diver­sity and ÖEHV join forces for an inclu­sive ice hockey culture

Since 2010, Hockey is Diversity has been passionately committed to making ice hockey a place that welcomes people from all backgrounds and fosters an open community. The organisation has successfully implemented numerous projects and has now become Europe’s leading initiative advocating for an inclusive welcoming culture in ice hockey.

ÖEHV’s decision to work with Hockey is Diversity underlines its progressive mindset and commitment to an inclusive future for ice hockey in Austria.

“Through our partnership with the Austrian Ice Hockey Federation, we are reaching a milestone on our journey to make ice hockey a place where everyone can pursue their passion for this great sport, regardless of their background, gender or sexual orientation,” says Dr. Martin Hyun, CEO and Founder of Hockey is Diversity. “Together, we will work towards sustainable change that will transform the ice hockey community in Austria forever.”

This collaboration will enable Hockey is Diversity and ÖEHV to pool their resources, experience and expertise in order to develop innovative programmes and measures that promote diversity in ice hockey and break down prejudice. By fostering an inclusive environment, both organisations aim to ensure that every ice hockey enthusiast has the opportunity to reach their full potential and be part of an open and supportive community.

The Austrian Ice Hockey Federation sees this as a significant step towards taking ice hockey in Austria to a new level. “The partnership with Hockey is Diversity is an important step towards inclusion and diversity in Austrian ice hockey. Through training sessions, workshops and a presence at ÖEHV Events, we want to raise awareness specifically of racism, discrimination, homophobia, bullying and sexism in ice hockey, as well as sensitising players and coaches. Key aspects of these issues are prevention, how to deal with incidents and how to address them when they occur. With Hockey is Diversity, we have experts at our side who bring a wealth of experience, particularly from ice hockey. As one of the first national federations to enter into such a partnership, we want to serve as a role model. (HiD) is a non-profit association actively committed to combating racism, right-wing extremism and discrimination, and to promoting an inclusive welcoming culture in ice hockey. The non-profit association was founded in 2010 by former DEL player Dr. Martin Hyun and Peter Goldbach.
