High-calibre prepa­ra­tion brings Austria up to World Cham­pi­onship level

“This preparation programme has proven its worth in recent years. We will start on 1 April with those players who are not involved in the win2day ICE Hockey League semi-finals or whose season has already ended,” explains Head Coach Roger Bader. 

As in previous years, the team will play a total of nine warm-up matches, facing Latvia, Hungary, Germany and Czechia twice each, before taking on record world champions Canada in the final game on 4 May at the Steffl Arena in Vienna. 

Roger Bader: “This year, too, we have an A-class World Championship preparation programme, both in terms of quality and quantity. Our aim is always to play against the strongest possible opponents as often as possible. With Latvia, Hungary, Germany, Czechia and Canada, we have achieved that once again. This programme helps us reach the required World Championship level.”

The first team camp of the World Championship preparation will take place in Vienna in early April, where Austria will host Latvia, bronze medallists at the 2023 World Championship. Team camp 2 will be held in Budapest (HUN), including test matches against the team promoted to the Top Division. The following week, from 14 to 19 April, Austria will face world champions Czechia in Linz and Znojmo (CZE), Germany in Zell am See and Rosenheim (GER) in the final week of April, and Canada in Vienna on 4 May.
