Head Coach Bader nominates 24 players for the February Break
For the Four Nations Tournament in Epinal, 09–10 February, Head Coach Roger Bader has called up a high-profile squad. As well as numerous players with World Championship experience, 19-year-old Vinzenz Rohrer will have the opportunity to prove himself, while David Reinbacher is also included. In addition, Steinbach Black Wings Linz goaltender Thomas Höneckl will have the chance to make a case for further duties with a view to the World Championship.

Among those named are Thomas Raffl, Manuel Ganahl and Dominique Heinrich, the three captains from the most recent World Championships. In defence, alongside Heinrich, Roger Bader has selected Dominic Hackl, David Maier, David Reinbacher, Ramon Schnetzer, Philipp Wimmer, Bernd Wolf and Kilian Zündel.
The forwards, in addition to Raffl and Ganahl, include Lukas Haudum, Paul Huber, Lukas Kainz, Felix Maxa, Senna Peeters, Maximilian Rebernig, Vinzenz Rohrer, Emilio Romig, Simeon Schwinger, Lucas Thaler and Ali Wukovits.
In goal, David Madlener, Florian Vorauer and Thomas Höneckl, who is in the national team for the first time since 2018, will make the trip to France. Madlener and Vorauer were already on the ice at the Deutschland Cup in the autumn, as were Maier, Schnetzer, Wimmer, Wolf, Zündel, Paul Huber, Maxa, Peeters, Rebernig and Rohrer.
Some of those named were also in the squad for the Österreich Cup last December. Kainz, Schwinger and Wukovits were also included at that time. Hackl, Heinrich, Reinbacher, Ganahl, Haudum, Raffl and Thaler have been called up for the first time this season.
Head Coach Roger Bader: “Once again, we have a good mix of experienced players and those who are being given an opportunity to put themselves forward for the upcoming tasks. As a rule, I only call up players over 30 years of age for one International Break. This now applies, for example, to the three captains Raffl, Heinrich and Ganahl, as well as, of course, others. Senna Peeters and Maximilian Rebernig have recently caught the eye with good performances, including for the national team, and are now being given another opportunity to show themselves. Thomas Höncekl has shown with very good performances for the Black Wings Linz that he can be a candidate for a World Championship team. We now want to give him the opportunity to prove that in the national team as well.”
The training camp starts in Vienna on 5 February. The national team moves to France on 8 February, where it will face the hosts on Friday, 9 February, and the winner/loser of Denmark vs. Norway on Saturday.
