HC Kufstein complete a perfect opening weekend with a 7:2 win in Dornbirn
Following their 4:1 opening victory against VEU Feldkirch, HC Kufstein also won their second game of the first Ö Eishockey Liga weekend away to Dornbirner EC convincingly 7:2. Kufstein’s match-winner was once again goalscorer David Hrazdira, who recorded a five-point game (two goals, three assists). The Division East clubs will also enter the fray next weekend.

On the first weekend of the new Ö Eishockey Liga, the Kufstein Dragons have already shown that they want to have a major say in the race for top spot in the Division West group after the regular season.
The team coached by head coach Ivo Novotny displayed its offensive power in the first period at the Messestadion Dornbirn against league newcomers Dornbirner EC and raced into a 4:0 lead. Inspired by Czech whirlwind David Hrazdira, the Tyroleans took an early 1:0 lead through Manuel Eder (4th minute), before Taylor Holst made it 2:0 (9th). Herbert Steiner extended the lead to 3:0 on the power play (16th), and Philipp Sappl scored for 4:0 31 seconds before the first intermission to all but settle the contest in the visitors’ favour.
Robin Wüstner breathed new life into the young Bulldogs, scoring Dornbirn’s first-ever ÖEL goal in the 24th minute. However, shortly after the halfway mark, David Hrazdira ended the Vorarlberg side’s hopes by making it 5:1 (31st). Manuel Eder scored his second goal in the 50th minute, and the game was finally decided.
The team coached by head coach Pavel Takac could only add a consolation goal through Stefan Leitner (54th), before David Hrazdira capped his outstanding display with the goal that made the final score 7:2 three minutes from time
Division East starts on 14 October 2023
One week after the opening in the West, Division East will also get under way on 14 October 2023.
ATSE Graz take on Kapfenberger SV, who, having been dominant division winners and semi-finalists last season, are again considered among the title favourites in the new campaign. EV Zeltweg Murtal Lions face Wiener Eislauf-Verein, while UEHV RAUCH Technology Sharks Gmunden travel to UHT Dukes Graz.
