HC Kufstein celebrate home win in district derby against EHC Crocodiles Kundl

HC Kufstein celebrated a 5:2 home win over EHC Crocodiles Kundl in the final district derby of the regular season in the Division West in front of more than 1.000 fans. The Dragons thereby at least secured third place in the standings, while Kundl suffered their fifth consecutive defeat.

From the outset, the two local rivals contested an intense, evenly balanced match featuring plenty of battles for the puck.

The hosts took the lead late in the first period: Manuel Eder set up Dominique Saringer, who was unmarked at the blue line, and the Dragons captain fired home to make it 1:0 with 25 seconds remaining before the first siren (20 min.).

Both teams wasted no time at the start of the second period, with exciting scoring chances at both ends. Just under five minutes in, Maximilian Agerer produced a burst of energy, embarking on a superb solo run from his own goal before finishing with a precise shot to level the score at 1:1 for the Crocodiles (26 min.). Kufstein then pressed for the lead once more, but Kundl goaltender Jakub Kostelny made some good saves during this phase.

While shorthanded, Valentin Hammerle won the puck behind the opposing goal and passed to Clemens Paulweber, who was completely unmarked in the slot and finished clinically to make it 2:1 (30 min.). Head coach Andreas Luchner's team then went on the power play, and Maximilian Camondo made it 3:1 from close range following a cross-ice pass (33 min.).

The derby remained exciting in the final period, not least because Kufstein failed to capitalise on a 5:3 power play. Shortly after a power play expired, Kundl's Daniel Frischmann entered the attacking zone and scored to cut the deficit to 2:3 (49 min.). Kufstein responded quickly: following a face-off win in their own zone, David Hrazdira launched an attack, and Clemens Paulweber converted his cross-ice pass to make it 4:2 just 46 seconds later (50 min.).

In the end, Kundl head coach Jaroslav Betka pulled goaltender Jakub Kostelny in favour of a sixth skater, and Fabian Nußbaumer poked the puck over the line following a won battle for possession to make it 5:2 and seal the result (59 min.). With their third derby win of the season, the Dragons secured third place in the standings, while Kundl suffered their fifth straight defeat.
