Hand­ball and ice hockey – one ticket, two high­lights

“The two international matches involving our national teams in the same arena in quick succession immediately prompted us to further intensify our already very good cooperation. Ice hockey and handball are two fast, attractive and physical sports, and we are convinced that we can inspire fans from both camps alike,” explain ÖEHV Managing Director Bernhard Friedrich and ÖHB Secretary General Bernd Rabenseifner in unison.

On 5 May, the ice hockey players host record world champions Canada in their final warm-up game before the 2024 World Championship. The Maple Leaf side will already feature numerous NHL stars. Austria, too, will be able to cheer on its World Championship team, with reinforcements from North America in the form of Marco Rossi and/or Marco Kasper not ruled out. At the 2024 World Championship, which begins for Austria against Denmark in Prague on 11 May, the team is targeting survival in the top division, the highest World Championship category, for the third consecutive time.

Austria’s handball team is also, so to speak, on the road to the World Championship, facing Georgia in the World Championship play-off, which is contested over two legs. The first leg takes place in Tbilisi on 9 May, with the return leg at the Steffl Arena on 12 May. Two wins, or the better aggregate score, will secure a ticket to the 2025 World Championship, which will be held in Croatia, Denmark and Norway in January next year.
