Great success at ice hockey charity match for "Im Herzen Wiener*in"

The major ice hockey charity match between Rescue Panthers Berufsrettung Wien and Polizeisportverein Wien Vienna Ice Tigers took place at the STEFFL Arena in Vienna on Saturday. The Vienna derby between the emergency services was won 5:3 by the police. Far more important, however, was the amount raised in donations at the end of the event.

In cooperation with the PULS association, the Rescue Panthers launched the “Im Herzen Wiener*in” campaign on 15 September 2022 to make a significant contribution to the fight against sudden cardiac death in the city of Vienna. Together with film production company bobdo, the ice hockey club produced a video in which survivors share their stories of cardiac arrest and their experiences with the chain of survival.

Defibrillators in police patrol cars have now been used hundreds of times. Every additional defibrillator in Vienna or in a Vienna police car makes the city a little more heart-safe. The highlight of the campaign was Saturday’s charity match between “EC Rescue Panthers Berufsrettung Wien” and “PSV Wien Vienna Ice Tigers” at the STEFFL Arena.

Presenter Michael Berger not only hosted the evening, but also demonstrated his qualities as an ice hockey player. Ice hockey ace Phil Lakos also got on the scoresheet for the emergency services team.

The Rescue Panthers were beaten 3:5 by the police team, but away from the ice, everyone was a winner. The organisers counted 800 guests, while the ice arena even reported 1.000 visitors.

The donations collected, €11.000,-, along with a defibrillator donated by Zoll, will benefit the PULS association for the designated purchase of life-saving defibrillators for the police defibrillator project and the CAPE10 initiative “Nein zu Krank und Arm”.

These defibrillators will in future be deployed in police patrol cars and other mobile police units as part of the First Responder project, while one defibrillator will be installed at the facility of the “Nein zu Krank und Arm” initiative.

At this exciting encounter, visitors were able to support the campaign Im Herzen Wiener*in.
