Graz spring surprise in DEBL1 / EWHL final without Austrian partic­i­pa­tion

A 1:2 defeat in the first leg and a 5:3 overtime win in the return leg saw Devils Graz eliminate EAC Junior Capitals "Flyers" in the DEBL 1 quarter-finals and advance to the semi-finals. Villach Lady Hawks are also through, having comfortably overcome SPG Kitzbühel/Kufstein with an aggregate score of 17:6 following their win in the Placement Round. The semi-final opponents will not be determined until next weekend, in the match-ups MAC Marilyn Budapest vs. Hokiklub Budapest II and Ferencvarosi Torna Club vs. Slovenia Select.

In the European Women´s Hockey League, the Lakers were eliminated by MAC Budapest in the quarter-finals. The first leg went to the Hungarians 6:1, while the Lakers kept the return leg close but ultimately still had to concede defeat 3:4.

For the Highlanders, one goal ultimately proved decisive. HC SKP Bratislava won the first leg 3:2, after the Highlanders had at one stage led 2:1. In front of their home crowd, the Styrians found themselves 0:2 behind after just a few minutes. They equalised at 4:4 with five minutes remaining in the final period. Bratislava saw out the narrow result to secure their place in the semi-finals.

While the title decider in DEBL 1 will take place in Villach on 1 / 2 April, the Austrian Championship title will be decided in Kapfenberg this Sunday.
