Goalkeeping legend Mack passes away
Robert Mack, a successful goaltender of the 1970s and 1980s, died in Vienna on Saturday following a serious illness, three days after his 61st birthday.

With deep dismay, the Austrian Ice Hockey Federation learned the news of the death of former goaltender Robert Mack on Saturday. The Carinthia native died in Vienna shortly after his 61st birthday, following a serious illness.
Mack played a total of 401 games in Austria's top division for EC-KAC (from 1977 to 1991) and won the championship seven times with the "Red Jackets". The goaltender took to the ice in 83 international matches for the Austrian national team. Six World Championship appearances and one Olympic appearance (1988 in Calgary) crowned his international career.
With Mack, Austrian ice hockey has lost one of the most outstanding goaltenders in its history. The ÖEHV extends its sincere condolences to his family, relatives and friends, and will always honour his memory.
