Four Nations Tournament in Kranj: Narrow defeat for Austria’s U16 against Hungary
Austria’s U16 men’s national ice hockey team is competing in a Four Nations Tournament in Kranj, Slovenia, during the IIHF November break. In their second match against Hungary, they suffered a narrow 1:2 defeat. Lorenz Kircher scored for the ÖEHV selection (at 42 on PP1). On Sunday, Head Coach Johannes Leitner’s team concludes the tournament against hosts Slovenia from 13:30.

Austria began their second match at Ledna dvorana Kranj against their Hungarian counterparts with Luc Schneider in goal. Zalán Antal Pákozdi gave Hungary a 1:0 lead in the first period (at 15). The second period was initially marked by several penalties, but neither team was able to capitalise with a goal.
Just under two minutes before the second intermission, Máté Schneider extended Hungary’s lead to 2:0 (at 38). Austria had a power play in the final half-minute and took the remainder of it into the final period. A few seconds before the power play expired, Lorenz Kircher pulled one back to make it 1:2 (at 42).
Shortly afterwards, the ÖEHV selection had another power-play opportunity, but the equaliser did not come during that numerical advantage. Austria pulled goaltender Luc Schneider late on, but it remained a narrow 1:2 defeat.
