Four Nations Tour­na­ment: Austria’s U18 women lose to Hungary in a shoot-out

The team coached by Head Coach Mario Bellina took the lead in the Lieser Valley town late in the second period through Pia Obermayr after a scoreless opening period, making it 1:0 (38.). Hungary started the final period shorthanded, but Helga Tamás levelled at 1:1 with a shorthanded goal just under two minutes into the period.

Austria regained the lead just under ten minutes after the equaliser, with Hana Ostadal making it 2:1 for Red-White-Red (53.). Once again, a power-play situation proved costly for the Austrians, as Dalma Gergely made it 2:2 around three minutes after Austria had taken the lead. The match went to overtime and then to a shoot-out, which was no less thrilling.

Valentina Prosen put Austria ahead in the shoot-out, before Hungary equalised and then took the lead. Pia Obermayr made it 2:2 with the final attempt of the first series. It was only with the 18th penalty overall that Dalma Gergely scored to secure a 3:2 win for Hungary.

Italy await the ÖEHV selection in their final match on Saturday afternoon from 14:30.

The tournament at the ice rink beneath the Goldeck marks the start of preparations for the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women's World Championship Division IA. The date and venue have yet to be confirmed. At the World Championship, Austria will face France and Norway as well as Germany, Italy and Hungary.

The Four Nations Tournament is an agreement between the four nations and will be held until 2026. Austria are hosting this year, Italy next year, and Hungary will be the host nation in 2026.
