Flyers lose goal fest

Michael Raffl and his Philadelphia Flyers (8-4-3) went down 3:7 to the Boston Bruins (11-3-2) in the NHL outdoor spectacle at Lake Tahoe. David Pastrnak was Boston’s match-winner with three goals. He made it 1:0 after just 34 seconds. Joel Farabee (7.) and Sean Couturier (15.) even put the Flyers ahead in the East Division top-of-the-table clash, but Charlie McAvoy (16.) levelled the scores before the end of the first period.

Pastrnak restored the lead after 46 seconds of the second period. A three-goal burst in 1:39 minutes from Charlie Coyle (47.), Trent Frederic (47.) and Nick Ritchie (48.) decisively turned the game in the Bruins’ favour. James van Riemsdyk (53./PP) could only reduce the deficit in the final period. Pastrnak (58.) added the final goal. Raffl was held scoreless in 16:39 minutes of ice time.

The injury-hit Flyers therefore also lost their second game after their enforced coronavirus break and sit third in the East Division behind the Bruins and Washington. The game had been pushed back by five and a half hours following ice problems the previous day – the game between the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche had to be interrupted for eight hours. Even so, it could not start on time: the players had to contend with visibility problems as the sunset was reflected on the ice, so play was delayed by 20 minutes.

The Montreal Canadians (9-5-3) went down 2:3 in overtime to the Ottawa Senators (5-14-1). Brady Tkachuk gave the home side something to celebrate after 3:30. The game between Vancouver (8-12-2) and Winnipeg (11-6-1) also went to overtime. Pierre-Luc Dubois sealed the Jets’ 3:2 win after 27 seconds.
