Five home wins in the second ÖEL round

Five teams remain unbeaten after the second round of the Austrian Ice Hockey League. Wiener Eislauf-Verein defeated HDK Maribor 8:3, while ASKÖ Grizzlies Linz won the Upper Austrian derby in Gmunden.

Wiener Eislauf-Verein once again demonstrated their scoring threat in the second round of the Austrian Ice Hockey League (ÖEL). After their 5:0 opening win in Linz, the Viennese side beat HDK Maribor 8:3 at home on Saturday and have a goal difference of +10 after two games. KSV Kängurus are also unbeaten. They only secured victory in Friday's Styrian clash against ATSE Graz in the penalty shoot-out, winning 4:3. For Graz, it was their second successive narrow defeat following the 1:2 overtime loss to Gmunden. ASKÖ Grizzlies Linz won the Upper Austrian derby 3:2 away to UEHV CAM4DENT Sharks Gmunden, celebrating their first win of the season.

In the West Division, EHC Lustenau, EHC Kundl and SC Samina Hohenems have each recorded two wins after two rounds. Lustenau prevailed 6:4 against HC Kufstein in a high-scoring home game. Kundl won the Tyrolean clash against WSG Swarovski Wattens Penguins 5:2. Both teams have scored eleven goals and conceded only four. The Vorarlberg derby between Hohenems and Dornbirner Eishockey Club went to a penalty shoot-out, where Hohenems came out on top 5:4. Kufstein, Wattens and Dornbirn are still waiting for their first win.

The third ÖEL round takes place on Saturday (17 October). In the West Division, Hohenems host EHC Kundl at 18:30, bringing together two unbeaten teams. Lustenau travel to Dornbirn at 19:30. In the East Division, Kängurus play in Gmunden at 18:30, while WEV visit ATSE Graz at the same time.
