Final win against IceCats: Villach Lady Hawks 2 claim the DEBL2 title

It was an atmospheric final weekend at the Ossiacher See Halle in Steindorf in DEBL2, the 2nd Women's Ice Hockey Bundesliga. Following Saturday's semi-final ties, the final saw Villach Lady Hawks 2 take on Sportunion DHC IceCats LinzAG II.

The Carinthian side had prevailed 5:0 over Red Angels Innsbruck, while the Upper Austrians narrowly defeated DEC Salzburg Eagles II, who had entered the final tournament as favourites on the back of their performances in the regular season, 2:1.

Johanna Sintschnig was named Lady of the Sunday after contributing three goals and two assists to the 5:2 victory and giving Villach the lead in the first period. Sintschnig also scored to make it 2:0 early in the second period, before Emily Wiesinger pulled one back for Linz to make it 1:2 on the power play.

Just eight seconds after Linz had pulled one back, the Villach side restored their two-goal lead, with Julia Haag making it 3:1. When Sintschnig made it 4:1, the game appeared to be decided at the end of the second period. Ida Schlöglmann made the match exciting again with a shorthanded goal in the 46th minute. 

Ilvy Fuchs fired the Villach Lady Hawks 2 to the DEBL2 title with 58 minutes played. In the third-place game, DEC Salzburg Eagles II claimed a 9:1 victory over Red Angels Innsbruck.
