EWHL: Sabres St. Pölten keep title hopes alive with 1:1 draw against Almaty!

Lena Artner gave the hosts the lead as early as the third minute. In a match that was evenly balanced for long spells, the Sabres held on to their narrow lead for a long time. But just as the Lower Austrians were enjoying more of the game in the third period, the visitors equalised through Cassidy Maplethorpe. The match remained level at 1:1 until the final whistle, with the second leg taking place in Zeltweg on Sunday.

In the battle for third place, EVB Eagles South Tyrol won the first game against HK PSRZ Bratislava 2:0. In the second game – also played in Bratislava – it was the Slovakians who made the better start this time, taking the lead through Lucia Haluskova in the 15th minute. Romana Kosecka extended the lead on the power play in the middle period, and the score remained 2:0 until the end of regulation time. The game went to overtime, where Ema Tothova sealed the win in the 65th minute.
