EWHL: KSV High­landers win first-leg quarter-final against Eagles South Tyrol

KSV Highlanders were 2:0 up in Bolzano after just 14 minutes before the middle period became a real goal fest. South Tyrol first fought their way back into the game with a quick double in the 23rd and 28th minutes, but Marielle Dijkema restored the Styrians' lead in the 30th minute – her second goal of the game.

The visitors levelled again (34th), but just a minute and a half later, Sara Confidenti scored to make it 4:3 for the Highlanders. The South Tyroleans had no response after that. The Styrians therefore take a narrow lead into the return leg, which takes place on Sunday at 11:30.

In the second game of the day, Aisulu Almaty took a major step towards the semi-finals. The Kazakhs claimed a convincing 5:1 win over Tauron Metropolia Silesia. Aisulu were already 2:0 ahead after ten minutes, with two further goals coming in the second period. They then made it 5:0 in the final period before Silesia managed a consolation goal in the final minute. The return leg takes place on Sunday at 10:45. Both games will be played in Zeltweg.

The quarter-final ties are decided over a first and second leg in Champions Hockey League (CHL) format. The aggregate score across the two matches played is used. The team leading on aggregate after the first and second legs advances to the semi-finals.

Should the aggregate score be tied at the final buzzer after 120 minutes, the decision will be made in a ten-minute three-on-three overtime and, if necessary, a penalty shootout with five shooters per team. This means there is no overtime in the first leg. The respective first leg ends after 60 minutes either in a draw or with a win in regulation time.
