After Germany comfortably defeated France 5:1 in the opening game in the afternoon and Hungary celebrated a narrow 3:2 overtime win against Poland, Austria's U16 women's team entered the action for the first time at the home tournament, taking on their Slovak counterparts at the new ice rink at the Hockey Training Center Ferlach.

The Slovakians were dominant and took a 1:0 lead through Natália Gerö in the eighth minute. In the second period, Head Coach Robert Marton's team raised the tempo once again, put on an impressive display and extended their lead to 3:0 shortly after the halfway mark. Lucia Lipčáková first made it 2:0 (25th minute), before Alexandra Hirjaková made it 3:0 (31st minute).

The Slovaks were efficient in attack and took their chances: Karin Hrušková made it 4:0 with just under two minutes played, effectively deciding the game early (34 minutes). In the final period, Tibelia Hirner replaced Rosalie Hohenwarter-Sodek in the Austrian goal. Slovakia continued to apply pressure and struck twice in quick succession: Lilly Laura Lipnická extended the lead to 5:0 (47 minutes), before Alexandra Hirjaková made it 6:0 just 36 seconds later (48 minutes).

Austria had no answer to trouble the strong Slovakians that evening; quite the opposite: Natália Gerö made it 7:0 (52nd minute). Lilly Laura Lipnická then struck on the power play to score Slovakia’s eighth goal (54th minute). Natália Gerö capped her outstanding performance with her third goal, with 9:0 also the final score (59th minute).
