EK Die Zeller Eisbären take over top spot in the Alps Hockey League

2.078 fans at the KE KELIT Arena celebrated EK Die Zeller Eisbären's commanding 7:0 home win over EC Bregenzerwald. The Salzburg side thus took over top spot and now hold a three-point lead over nearest challengers Ritten. After thirteen scoreless minutes, the “Eisbären” went into the first intermission with a 2:0 lead following two goals in a minute and a half.

The home side also scored twice in the second period. At that point, Hubert Berger had accounted for two of the four goals. In the final period, it took until the 51st minute for Zell am See to score again. This time, new signing Devin Steffler was on target.

It was the defenceman's first goal in his second game. Max Stiegler made it 6:0 in the 53rd minute, while Kilian Rappold completed the 7:0 final score with 18 seconds remaining. For twelfth-placed Bregenzerwald, it was a third consecutive defeat, while Zell am See celebrated a fourth straight victory.

Hockey Unterland Cavaliers and KHL Sisak face each other twice in Neumarkt this weekend. The hosts won the first encounter 5:2. However, the visitors led 1:0 after the first period, and after 40 minutes the score was level (2:2).

But in the final period, the Cavaliers, currently ninth in the standings, stepped up a gear: Gabriel Galassiti first put the hosts ahead in the 43rd minute before Kristians Samitis extended their lead to 3:1 in the 55th. It was the forward's second goal of the game and his second brace of the season. The game was finally decided by an empty-net goal with 41 seconds remaining. For the Cavaliers, it was their first win after four consecutive defeats, while seventh-placed Sisak suffered their first loss after three straight victories.
