EHV Sabres Wien crowned cham­pions for the 12th consec­u­tive time!

After their 4:2 away win in the first final, the players led by national team goaltender Selma Luggin also left nothing to chance on home ice. Lena Maria Artner gave the Sabres an early lead (2.), but the Highlanders quickly equalised through Olivia Atkinson (5.). After a 1:1 scoreline following the first period, the serial champions pulled away to 4:1 in the second period. Anna Hanser set the Viennese side on course for victory early in the second period (24.). Karolina Hengelmüller’s game-winning goal to make it 3:1 gave them a preliminary decision (26.). When Katharina Killius scored shorthanded to make it 4:1, the second final was decided (38.).

In the final period, Hailey Wilson (46.) and Kayla Nielsen (56.) extended the lead to 6:1 before Neuberg managed a consolation goal through Jennifer Pesendorfer (56.). Nadine Edney put the seal on the 7:2 win (58.), as the Sabres became Austrian champions for the 12th consecutive time and for the 18th time overall since their foundation in 1999.

European Women’s Hockey League quarter-finals start on Saturday

The Sabres Wien and co. return to women’s ice hockey action next weekend, when the eagerly anticipated European Women’s Hockey League quarter-finals get under way. The semi-finalists will be determined from Saturday, 26 March 2022. The KEHV Lakers from Carinthia face KMH Budapest, the KSV Neuberg Highlanders take on MAC Budapest, while the third quarter-final sees Aisulu Alamty from Kazakhstan play Silesian Metropolis Katowice from Poland. Champions Sabres Wien face HC SKP Bratislava.

Women’s Ice Hockey Bundesliga final tournament in Graz

The Dameneishockey Bundesliga (DEBL) will also offer plenty of play-off excitement next weekend. The final tournament will take place in Graz. Two Austrian teams have qualified for the Final Four following the regular season. Hosts DEC Devils Graz and the Villach Lady Hawks will battle for the title alongside the two Hungarian teams, MAC Marilyn Budapest and KMH Budapest II.
