Dream final! Lustenau to face Kapfen­berg after victory in Kufstein, who beat Hohenems

Semi-final 1 – Game 2: EHC Lustenau reach final after emphatic win in Kufstein

The Vorarlberg side, who led 1:0 in the best-of-three series following their 4:1 win at the Rheinhalle, made a dream start: following a forceful forecheck, Timo Demuth found himself in front of the Kufstein goal after a pass from Riku Tianinen. HCK netminder Thomas Pfarrmaier was still able to make the save, but he was powerless against Dominic Haberl's close-range rebound to make it 1:0 for the Lions after exactly 71 seconds (2.).

Lustenau added another: after a fine pass from David Slivnik, goalscorer Christopher D’Alvise entered the offensive zone at speed down the right and gave Kufstein netminder Pfarrmaier no chance with a close-range finish for 2:0 (9.). With their two-goal lead, Lustenau controlled proceedings on the ice. The Dragons battled doggedly to get back into the game, but were unable to convert their first power play into a goal to reduce the deficit.

Right at the start of the second period, the Tyroleans had another opportunity to cut the deficit on the power play. Once again, the hosts were unable to score. With every shift, Kufstein now had to play more offensively and take greater risks. The visitors patiently waited for further opportunities: after a cross-ice pass from Christopher D’Alvise, Martin Grabher Meier fired into the gaping net from the right to make it 3:0 (28.).

Just under two minutes later, it was Martin Grabher Meier again, skating from behind the goal line in Lustenau's first power play and putting the score at 4:0 with a backhander (30.). Only 35 seconds later, the Vorarlberg side were already 5:0 ahead: following a fine combination, Robin Wüstner also scored with a backhander to all but decide the game before its halfway point (30.). After emotions spilled over in a scuffle, Lustenau added another: Christopher D’Alvise once again broke clear and scored 6:0 with a replica of his first goal (35.).

Kufstein now fell apart completely, while Lustenau continued relentlessly. Chris D’Alvise made it 7:0 from close range on the power play (37.). The Vorarlberg side were not finished yet, with Lucas Haberl adding 8:0 – also from close range and on the power play – (38.). In the final period, Lustenau professionally saw out the result, before emotions once again took centre stage at the end. EHC Lustenau ultimately claimed a clear 8:0 win, with goaltender Felix Beck recording a shutout, won the best-of-three series 2:0 and will face East Division winners KSV Kängurus in the final from Saturday, 07 March.

Semi-final 2 – Game 2: KSV Kängurus prevail against SC Hohenems

The SC Hohenems fought against the in the Hohenems Ice Stadium on Saturday in front of almost 900 fans KSV Kängurus at the Eisstadion Hohenems on Saturday in front of almost __OEHV_NUM_P_A__ fans to remain in the best-of-three series. The Styrians had won 5:4 after a penalty shoot-out in Kapfenberg the previous weekend and had the chance to book their place in the final early with an away win in the Ländle.

The visitors made a strong start to the game: following a superb cross-ice pass from Lukas Draschkowitz, defenceman Neal Unterluggauer scored to make it 1:0 for Kapfenberg (4.). Two goals within 48 seconds quickly gave the Mürztal side a three-goal lead. While falling, Florian Hoppl intercepted a long pass from Lukas Telsnig, went one-on-one with HSC netminder Pascal Prugger and superbly buried the puck to make it 2:0 (7.).

Kevin Moderer then produced a burst of energy, bamboozled a Hohenems defenceman and scored from the slot to make it 3:0 (8.). The Steinböcke then had their first power play, but were unable to capitalise by scoring their first goal. Towards the end of the first period, the Kängurus had a power-play opportunity, including a spell of 5:3 superiority. Lukas Draschkowitz was positioned at the right post and got his stick blade to the puck to make it 4:0 (20.).

The hosts made the better start to the second period. Eric Ockert was initially denied from the slot, but the German made the most of his second opportunity a few seconds later, reducing the deficit to 1:4 for Hohenems with a powerful wrist shot (22.). The Vorarlberg side now enjoyed a strong spell and pressed for a second goal.

Kapfenberg were solid defensively as a unit alongside netminder Felix Nußbacher and initially maintained their three-goal lead. It got even better for the Styrians: two goals within 25 seconds saw the Kängurus pull away. Pierre Graf deflected a shot to make it 5:1 (33.), before Manuel Trost added 6:1 (33.). The Emser did not give up and were able to reduce the deficit in the second period: on the power play, Patrick Spannring fired from the left face-off circle after entering the offensive zone to make it 2:6 (36.).

There was then an exchange of a few pleasantries, but the players quickly calmed down again. The Schlittschuhclub had to adopt an even more attacking approach in the final period to get back into the game, but the visitors played extremely intelligently in the opening minutes and managed their four-goal lead well. Just under eleven minutes before the end, the Hohenems fans had a glimmer of hope: after a long lob and a lapse in the Kapfenberg defence, Ricards Purins suddenly found himself one-on-one with goaltender Nußbacher and made it 3:6 (50 min.).

In the end, Hohenems pulled their goaltender for a sixth skater, and Luca Fasching scored into the empty net to make it 7:3 for the Kängurus (59 min.). The Styrians won 7:3 at SC Hohenems and also took the best-of-three series 2:0. The grand final against Division West winners EHC Lustenau begins on Saturday, 07 March 2026.

Play-off format and further dates

The play-off match-ups, from the quarter-finals through the semi-finals to the final, are each decided in a best-of-three series (H/A/H) . The teams that record two wins first advance to the semi-finals. If the score is level after regulation time, a five-minute three-on-three overtime period is played, as in the regular season. Should overtime also fail to produce a decision, a penalty shoot-out follows. In the semi-finals, the highest-ranked quarter-final winner after Phase 1 plays the lowest-ranked quarter-final winner after Phase 1. The semi-final winners meet in the final.
