Draisaitl named new NHL MVP

Leon Draisaitl has become the first German to be named the most valuable player of an NHL season. The Edmonton Oilers superstar beat Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado) and Artemi Panarin (New York Rangers) in the vote for the "MVP" award.
"This is a great honour. Our ice hockey in Germany is getting better and better and we are producing more and more players, so hopefully this will inspire many young children to play ice hockey and take up this sport rather than others," explained the 24-year-old.
With 110 points (43 goals and 67 assists), Draisaitl led the league this season. "It is a nice personal award, but nothing beats a Stanley Cup," although the German's biggest goal remains unfulfilled.
The Calder Trophy for the best rookie went to Cale Makar (Colorado), while Connor Hellebuyck (Winnipeg) received the Vezina Trophy for the best goaltender. Swiss player Roman Josi (Nachville) was awarded the Norris Trophy as the best defenceman.
