Double-header against Hungary to get team into World Championship shape
From 21 to 27 April, Austria’s women’s national ice hockey team will be aiming for promotion to the Top Division for the first time at the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women´s World Championship Division IA in Klagenfurt. One week before the start of the World Championship, Head Coach Alexander Bröms will bring the team together in Bruck an der Leitha. On 12 and 13 April, they will face Hungary twice in Budapest as part of their preparations.

With the exception of Theresa Schafzahl, the national team will already be complete at this training camp. It has yet to be definitively clarified whether the 23-year-old, who plays for Boston in the North American professional PWHL league, will be released by her club.
Anna Meixner will already be with the national team at this training camp. Following the ankle injury she suffered during the February break, it remains to be seen whether she will be fit in time for the World Championship. The games against Hungary will in any case come too soon.
The training camp begins in Bruck an der Leitha on 10 April, with several on- and off-ice training sessions on the programme. On 12 and 13 April, they will play two friendly internationals against Hungary, who were relegated from the Top Division along with France.
“We are now entering the final phase of our World Championship preparations. We will still work on certain details and also begin preparing mentally for the home World Championship. It is important that we find our focus and our game with a view to the World Championship,” explains Alexander Bröms. The games against Hungary are intended to help with that.

2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women´s World Championship
From 21 to 27 April 2024, Klagenfurt will host the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women´s World Championship Division IA. Austria will face Hungary, France, Norway, the Netherlands and South Korea for promotion to the Top Division. Following 2009 and 2017, it is the third Women’s World Championship to be held on Austrian ice.
