Double-header against Hungary in Kapfen­berg in December

“We are pleased that it has worked out so quickly to hold a first international game at the new arena in Kapfenberg,” says Roger Bader. There were various considerations for the December break. During the IIHF Congress in Turkey, the head coach ultimately held talks with the Hungarian federation.

“We discussed the idea of playing two games close to the border. This means the effort required for our guests is not great, and they can even travel by bus,” explains Roger Bader.

The two games will take place on 15 and 16 December. Hungary secured promotion to the A group at the World Championship last spring and will be the final group-stage opponent for Austria's red-white-red selection at next year's top-tier World Championship in Tampere (FIN).

In exactly three weeks' time, Austria will take part in the Deutschland Cup during the November break, facing the hosts, Slovakia and Denmark in Krefeld.

“Every year, we use one tournament to take to the ice with a young team. This is usually during the November break. Due to the Deutschland Cup, we will field a prospect team in December this time,” the head coach has already revealed.
