Defeat for the U20 National Team against Latvia at the Four Nations Tour­na­ment in Stavanger

Austria conceded the 0:1 to Kristers Ansons early in the first period (8 minutes). Ansons was also the player who made it 2:0 to Latvia on the power play in what was otherwise an evenly matched game – Red-White-Red had one more shot on goal in the opening 20 minutes (16 minutes). In the second period, Ansons completed his hat-trick to extend the Latvian team’s lead to 3:0; they will compete at the World Juniors in St. Paul, Minneapolis, USA, at the end of December/beginning of January (26 minutes).

Shortly afterwards, Austria’s U20 were finally on the scoresheet as well: Johannes Neumann made it 1:3 with a precise shot from the left face-off circle shortly before the halfway point of the game (30nd minute). Latvia remained composed and did not allow Austria to mount a comeback; on the contrary, Dāvids Tarvids scored to make it 4:1 (38th minute).

Exactly one minute later, the game was all but decided: Markuss Kristians Sieradzkis made it 5:1 (39nd minute). Curiously, after 40 minutes Austria still led Latvia by one shot on goal.

After just 25 seconds, Daniels Serkins made it 6:1 for Latvia in the final period (41nd minute). Just under three minutes from the end, Johannes Neumann scored his second goal, this time on the power play, to make the score more respectable at 2:6 (58th minute).
