December Break squad: average age of 22,6 years and 5 debutants

Following the extremely successful debut at the Deutschland Cup almost three weeks ago, which saw the team record two wins and finish second, the senior national team will play two friendlies against Hungary in Kapfenberg on 15 and 16 December. ORF Sport+ will broadcast both matches live. Head Coach Roger Bader heads into the December Break with a prospect team featuring five debutants in Jacob Pfeffer, Bernhard Posch, Paul Stapelfeldt, Clemens Krainz and Benjamin Lanzinger, and with an average age of just 22,6 years.

“Once a year, I take a so-called prospect team to a tournament. In recent years, this has usually been during the November Break. As we are taking part in the Deutschland Cup for the first time this year, we are using the December Break to scout new candidates for the senior national team,” explains Head Coach Roger Bader.

The team will assemble in Kapfenberg from 12 to 16 December, where two friendlies against Hungary are scheduled for Thursday, 15.12, and Friday, 16.12. Roger Bader: “There are many interesting players in the squad who now have the opportunity to show themselves at this level. The potential this opportunity holds can be seen from the Four Nations Tournament in Jesenice (SLO) in November 2021. Several players from that squad went on to make the World Championship squad.”

Goalkeeper Nicolas Wieser, defenceman Michael Kernberger and forwards Lukas Bär, Felix Maxa and Dario Winkler are the team’s “oldies” at 25 years of age. They are joined by the aforementioned debutants and a total of twelve players whose dates of birth fall after the turn of the millennium. This results in an average age of 22,6 years.
