The KAC Women went into last weekend's second leg against Hokiklub Budapest II at the Sepp-Puschnig-Halle carrying a 1:5 deficit. With a sensational comeback, the Red Jackets turned the tie around at home, winning 7:2 thanks to a late double strike in the final period and clinching the quarter-final by the narrow aggregate score of 8:7. In the semi-finals, the hosts will face Graz99ers Huskies II.
The Styrians, who had narrowly won 3:2 away to MAC Marilyn Budapest in Hungary, set the course for progression to the Final Four with two goals in the middle period of the second leg. In the end, the Huskies celebrated a 3:0 home win, with the aggregate score standing at 6:3.
The Red Jackets had celebrated two wins in the direct encounters during the regular season, with the Klagenfurt side winning 2:1 after overtime away from home at the beginning of October. KAC Women won 6:2 in the home game in mid-November.
The Villach Lady Hawks gave themselves a comfortable cushion for last Saturday's home game at the Ossiacher See Halle in Steindorf with a 9:0 away win over Rampage Veszprem, which the Draustadt side again won convincingly, 10:1. After a 2:0 first period, the blue-and-whites added significantly in the second, and a 7:1 scoreline over the second 20 minutes sealed the result. Villach won 19:1 on aggregate.
In the second semi-final, the Draustadt side will take on defending champions Women Capitals, who established a 5:1 lead for the second leg in the first game against Ferencvarosi Torna Club. In Hungary, the home side held a 3:2 scoreline after 40 minutes, but the Viennese side equalised for 3:3 in the end, allowing the Caps to become the final team to reach the Final Four with an aggregate score of 8:4.
In the direct encounters of the regular season, Villach opened the campaign with a narrow 3:2 home win. At the beginning of December, Vienna witnessed an open-air goal fest in front of the Konzerthaus, with the hosts winning 8:7 in overtime after a 7:7 scoreline after 60 minutes.
After the regular season, Villach Lady Hawks were top of the table after 18 rounds, followed by KAC Women and Graz99ers Huskies II. Reigning champions EAC Women Capitals were only in seventh place, but made perfect use of the quarter-finals to reach the Final Four.
