According to US media, the coronavirus outbreak affecting NHL team the Vancouver Canucks is taking on increasingly alarming proportions. As ESPN reported on Sunday, more than half of the team's professionals are now believed to have tested positive.

As of Saturday, 14 players were on the National Hockey League's COVID list. Players on this list are not necessarily infected themselves; close contacts are included as well. ESPN also reports that the Brazilian variant of the coronavirus has been detected in some players.

The Canucks last played on 24 March. All subsequent games were cancelled. Originally, the NHL had expected the team to be able to play again on 8 April. That now appears unlikely.
