Clear defeat for Red Bull Salzburg against ERC Ingolstadt in the first leg of the CHL round of sixteen
EC Red Bull Salzburg suffered a clear 2:6 away defeat to ERC Ingolstadt in the first leg of the Champions Hockey League round of sixteen. Despite a strong spell in the second period, Ingolstadt were the more efficient team and ruthlessly capitalised on Salzburg's mistakes. The return leg will take place at Salzburg's Volksgarten on Wednesday, 19 November, starting at 19:15.

EC Red Bull Salzburg struggled in Ingolstadt from the outset and quickly fell behind following early attacking moves by the home side. Tyler Lewington did equalise with a deflected shot, but Ingolstadt struck twice in quick succession before the first break.
Salzburg showed clear signs of life in the second period, increasing the pressure and creating several good chances. However, the hosts' power-play goal to make it 1:4 came at an unfortunate time and halted their momentum.
After Lukas Hörl pulled another goal back early in the final period, Ingolstadt responded immediately. The Red Bulls were unable to hit back and eventually went down 2:6. The Red Bulls therefore need to win by at least a four-goal margin in the return leg in Salzburg on 19 November to keep their hopes of progressing alive.
