Christiane Loinig-Velik joins the Medical Team for the Olympic ice hockey tournament
Austria will therefore have two representatives in Milan and Cortina d´Ampezzo, alongside Julia Kainberger, who will officiate as a referee at the Olympic women’s ice hockey tournament. Christiane Loinig-Velik will serve as a Medical Supervisor at both the women’s and men’s ice hockey tournaments. The Olympic Winter Games will take place from 6 to 22 February 2026.

“It makes me proud and it is a great honour,” said the Carinthian, delighted in her initial reaction. It will be the first Olympic Games of Christiane Loinig-Velik’s career, who said with a smile: “I didn’t make it as a player. But now I have as an official.” She will be supported on site by experienced colleagues such as Mike Stuart (USA), Mark Aubry (CAN) and Markku Tuominen (FIN).
Christiane Loinig-Velik is a specialist in trauma surgery, orthopaedics and traumatology, as well as a sports psychology coach. She holds a diploma in international sports management and has also worked for the National Anti-Doping Agency NADA Austria since 2010, as well as serving as the anti-doping officer at Olympia Zentrum Kärnten since 2014.
Loinig-Velik is not only the only woman on the IIHF medical committee; since 2018, she has been one of three women worldwide to serve as a Medical Supervisor at major IIHF ice hockey tournaments. She has also held the IOC Diploma in Sports Medicine since 2022.
