Cham­pions Hockey League cancelled

There will be no Champions Hockey League (CHL) in the 2020/21 season. After the start was postponed from 6 October to 17 November due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the European competition has now been cancelled in its entirety. The CHL announced this on Tuesday.

EC Red Bull Salzburg, EV spusu Vienna Capitals and HCB Südtirol from the ICE Hockey League would have taken part in the competition featuring 32 teams from twelve countries. "Ultimately, the CHL Board came to the very difficult conclusion that staging the 2020/21 season is not feasible for either the Champions Hockey League or the participating clubs, both in terms of sporting operations and finances," CHL President Peter Zahner explained the cancellation following an extraordinary video conference on Tuesday.

CHL Managing Director Martin Baumann added: "We have a long-term contract with our media and marketing partner Infront until 2027/28. At this point in time, I am convinced that we will return for the 2021/22 season better than ever before."
