Carry the momentum from the first win against France

With Monday evening’s 6:0 win over South Korea, Austria’s women’s national ice hockey team has truly arrived at the home World Championship. Their chances of promotion to the Top Division remain intact. On Wednesday evening at 19:30, live on ORF SPORT +, they face France, who were relegated from the top tier last year.

France, who comfortably won their opening game against the Netherlands 5:1, lost 3:4 to Norway on Monday after a turbulent penalty shootout. If the Austrian side can win all their remaining games against France, Hungary and the Netherlands in regulation time, they will not need to rely on any permutations in the promotion race.

In order to take the next step against Les Bleus, Tuesday’s schedule initially focused on recovery, before the team returned to the ice in the late afternoon. “Today, we first had to press the off button, then the on button to be ready for France. We had a few meetings today. Recovery was the priority,” said Head Coach Alexander Bröms.

Preparation for France is primarily about their own game, as Annika Fazokas, who has scored three goals in the tournament so far, reveals: “We are focusing on ourselves, concentrating on ourselves and playing our game.”

Tamara Grascher adds: “Anything can happen at the World Championship; you cannot rest even with a 3:0 lead, as we saw in the game between France and Norway. We have to play our game and keep possession of the puck.”
