Busy February break for Austria’s youth national teams

The U15 men’s national ice hockey selection team will play a four-nation tournament in Fondo, Italy. Their opponents will be Hungary, Slovenia and hosts Italy. The U14 men’s national ice hockey selection teams East, South and West will hold a scouting camp in St. Pölten.

U19 to hold training camp in Klagenfurt

Head Coach Kirk Furey has called up a squad of U19 players for the training camp in Klagenfurt from 06 to 09 February, in order to scout and assess players for the future U20 national team.

The U20 season ended with the World Championship in Canada, and a new team must now be assembled. As part of the training camp in Klagenfurt, the U19 selection will face France twice,

U18 at four-nation tournament in Gjovik

The countdown to the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division I, Group B in Bled, Slovenia, in April begins for Austria’s U18 national team with the four-nation tournament in Norway.

Head Coach Philipp Pinter and his selection can expect a strong field in Gjovik, situated around 45 kilometres by road south of Lillehammer on Lake Mjosasee. Opponents Norway and Latvia will play in the World Championship top division in Switzerland at the end of April, while Denmark are currently in Division I, Group A and will contest their World Championship in France in April.

The games will be played in the atmospheric Olympiske Fjellhall. The ice arena is part of the Fjellhallen building complex, which was blasted into the mountain for the ice hockey games at the 1994 Olympic Games, and is located on the edge of the city centre beneath the local mountain, Hovdetoppen. In the spring, the U18 national team will face Italy, Slovenia, South Korea, Poland and Estonia at the Division IB World Championship in Bled (SLO) from Monday, 10 April 2023 to Sunday, 16 April 2023.

U16 at four-nation tournament in Kristiansand

The team led by Head Coach Florian Mühlstein will also be in Norway for a four-nation tournament in Kristiansand. Germany await in the opening game on Thursday, 09 February 2023, followed a day later by their French counterparts, before the ÖEHV selection faces hosts Norway in the final game of the tournament. Kristiansand is located on the southern Norwegian coast, with the games to be played at the Idda Arena.

U15 faces Hungary, Slovenia and Italy

Austria’s U15 men’s national ice hockey selection team will take part in a four-nation tournament in Italy during the February break, following the Kufstein Cup in November.

The team led by Head Coach René Wild will face Hungary in the opening game on Thursday, 09 February 2023. Austria lost 3:5 to their neighbours at the Kufstein Cup. The following day, Slovenia, another neighbouring nation, await the red-white-red U15 players, before they face another neighbour, hosts Italy, on the final day.

Austria’s U15 selection celebrated a 4:1 victory over the Squadra Azzurra at the Kufstein Cup. The games will be played at the Palasmeraldo in Fondo, the main town of the upper Nonstal valley in Trentino. The beautifully situated mountain village is around 40 kilometres by road from Bolzano via the Mendel Pass.

Scouting camps for U14 teams in St. Pölten

The U14 selection teams (East, South, West) will hold a camp under the direction of from Wednesday, 8 February 2023 to Saturday, 11 February 2023.Head Coach Frank Seewald (West), Head Coach Klaus Rappold (South) and Head Coach Christoph Harand (East) will hold a scouting camp at the Eissporthalle St. Pölten in the Sportzentrum Niederösterreich. As part of the camp, the U14 select teams will play three games against one another to gain match practice.
