Boston's Theresa Schafzahl beats Anna Meixner's Ottawa in the first all-Austrian clash

Anna Meixner started on Ottawa's left wing on the third line alongside centre Natalie Snodgrass, with Emily Clark operating on the right wing. For Boston, Theresa Schafzahl lined up as the right winger on the first line alongside centre Susanna Tapani and Switzerland's Alina Müller on the left wing.

After an even but scoreless first period at the Tsongas Center in Lowell – around 50 kilometres north of Boston – Schafzahl fired her first shot at Ottawa goalie Emerance Maschmeyer shortly after Jamie Lee Rattray had given the Boston Fleet a 1:0 lead.

The game now picked up pace, with the team from the Canadian capital equalising through Shiann Darkangelo. Shay Maloney put Boston back in front shortly afterwards, before Aneta Tejralová made it 2:2 for Ottawa later in the middle period. Hannah Brandt added Boston's 3:2 in the final period, which also proved to be the final score.

Meixner logged a total of 12:27 minutes of ice time for Ottawa but, like Theresa Schafzahl, who recorded a total of 18:04 minutes of ice time and had two shots on goal, was held without a point. Salzburg native Meixner is still waiting for her first point in her debut PWHL season. After four games, Schafzahl has one assist, which the Styrian registered in the Fleet's 4:2 win over the New York Sirens on 08 December.

An all-Austrian clash in pre-season, too

The two red-white-red role models had already met once in the new women's professional league founded in 2023. ÖEHV captain Anna Meixner scored a goal and added an assist in her Ottawa Charge debut in the pre-season game against the Boston Fleet on 21 November. Theresa Schafzahl was held without a point for the Fleet on that occasion.
