Austrian Women’s Championship: Graz Huskies crowned Austrian champions for the first time

With a narrow 1:0 win over SKN Sabres St. Pölten, EC Graz Huskies secured the Austrian women’s ice hockey title for the first time in their history. After the Sabres, Ravens Salzburg and last year’s champions KSV Neuberg Highlanders, they are only the fourth club to be immortalised on the championship honours board. Bronze went to KEHV Lakers, who defeated the Highlanders 5:2.

The game-winning goal came as early as the 15th minute. Simona Grascher scored the gold-medal winner after an assist from Lena Dauböck. Over the full 60 minutes, the Huskies and Sabres engaged in a fierce battle, with Karla Kronberger in the Styrian side’s goal proving unbeatable.

The Lower Austrians had a slight edge in scoring chances in the opening two periods but could not get the puck over the line. The final period belonged to the Huskies, and after 60 minutes, the dam burst and endless celebrations erupted.

The game for 3rd place produced considerably more goals, with the KEHV Lakers coming out on top 5:2. The KSV Neuberg Highlanders took an early lead and went into the first break 1:0 ahead. However, the Lakers seized the momentum in the middle period, made it 4:2 and set themselves on course for victory.
