Austrian ice hockey mourns Martin Labitzke. The Carinthian passed away on 6 July 2022 after a serious illness. Labitzke had gone through every stage that a life in ice hockey can offer. He initially played ice hockey himself, successfully completed his coaching qualification and then became a head referee in the Austrian Bundesliga.
As Carinthia’s provincial refereeing representative and subsequently in his role as referees’ chairman, Martin Labitzke left a significant mark on the ÖEHV.
His successor as “Referee in Chief”, Gerhard Schiffauer recalls his long-standing refereeing colleague and friend on behalf of the entire refereeing fraternity: “The development of referees was always particularly close to his heart. Martin also always put togetherness first, for which we will be eternally grateful to him. We will miss his ever-friendly, considerate and positive manner. We have lost a friend and will always remember Martin fondly!”
The Austrian Ice Hockey Federation extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Martin Labitzke.
