Austria suffer defeat in second World Championship warm-up against Hungary
Austria's men's national ice hockey team lost their fourth World Championship warm-up game against Hungary 1:5 on Friday. Paul Huber scored Austria's goal (8 min.). The ÖEHV selection will continue at Team Camp #3 with a double-header against world champions Czechia. On Thursday, Head Coach Roger Bader's team will play in Znojmo from 19:00. The young Austrian selection, still without around 19 players, including nominally the four strongest goaltenders Atte Tolvanen, David Kickert, Florian Vorauer and Benedikt Oschgan, were looking to make amends for the bitter 2:4 defeat the day before and made the perfect start to the game thanks to Paul Huber (8 min.).
Austria held on to their narrow lead until the 34th minute, when Mark Schlekmann capitalised on a power play to level the score at 1:1 for Hungary, who have been preparing for the 2025 World Championship with their full World Championship squad since 31 March. Shortly before the break, Istvan Terbocs gave the hosts a 2:1 lead.
Around five minutes into the final period, Dominic Zwerger had the equaliser on his stick as he raced in alone on the opposition goal. Instead of 2:2, Austria fell 1:5 behind within three minutes. Gergo Ambrus sealed the final score with a shorthanded goal in the 49th minute.

It is a bit of a déjà vu from last year's warm-up games against Slovenia, who at the same stage also already had their full squad available. Our lead at the start of the game was deserved.
