Head Coach Alexander Bröms has nominated 23 players for the team camp in the Netherlands. The Austrian selection will hold its training camp during the February break at the famous Thialf ice arena in Heerenveen, which is particularly renowned for hosting world and European speed skating championships. This will be followed by two test matches against the Netherlands, who will also be group opponents at the World Championship in China, as part of the "Dutch Ice Hockey Women's International Exhibition" on Friday, 10 February at 20:00 and Saturday, 11 February at 17:00.
At the last World Championship in April 2022 in Angers, France, Austria narrowly defeated the "Oranje" 2:1 after a penalty shootout. Charlotte Wittich gave Austria the lead shortly after the halfway point of the match and then scored the decisive shootout goal. The Netherlands would have been relegated from the World Championship Division IA to Group B based on last year’s final standings, but are once again in Group A due to Russia’s exclusion.
Martin Kogler, General Manager: "The Netherlands are a good opponent. At the last World Championship, we only managed to beat them in a penalty shootout. Head Coach Alexander Bröms has the opportunity to get to know some new players, has the Swedish-based players in the squad for the first time, as well as USA-based player Marja Linzbichler. These matches already serve as preparation for the World Championship."
From 11 to 17 April 2023, the ÖEHV selection will compete in Shenzhen/CHN against Denmark, Norway, Slovakia, the Netherlands and hosts China at the World Championship Division IA for promotion to the Top Division.
