Austria’s women to face Japan in warm-up and host Wörthersee Trophy

Austria’s women’s national ice hockey team faces an intensive schedule over the next week and a half. This Wednesday, they will first welcome Japan to Innsbruck as the visitors prepare for the Olympic Winter Games. From 5 to 8 February, Klagenfurt will host the Wörthersee Trophy, a 6-nation tournament featuring Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Switzerland, Norway and Denmark.

Head Coach Alexander Bröms can also count on PWHL-based Anna Meixner and Theresa Schafzahl for these challenges. Overall, he has named the strongest possible squad, featuring numerous players based abroad as well as players from the domestic championship who also compete in the EWHL.

The action begins in Innsbruck, where Olympic participants Japan will be welcomed this Wednesday at 18:15. The Asian side has qualified for the tournament featuring the five rings for the fourth consecutive time and has been represented continuously in the Top Division at World Championships since 2019.

At the Wörthersee Trophy in Klagenfurt next week, Austria will again face Olympic participants in Switzerland. The six participating nations are divided into two groups of three. The group stage will be played on 5, 6 and 7 February, with the placement games taking place on Sunday, 8 February.

Austria will open against Switzerland on 5 February at 19:15, before facing Denmark on 6 February. The respective group winners will then play for the tournament title, the runners-up for 3rd place and the third-placed teams for 5th place.
