Austria's women suffer defeat against France in Shen­zhen in final World Cham­pi­onship test

Austria's women's national ice hockey team lost their final test match in Shenzhen (CHN) against France 1:4. Laura Leitner scored for the ÖEHV side (7th). At the World Championship in China, the ÖEHV side will face Denmark, China, Slovakia, the Netherlands and France from Sunday, 13 April. The World Championship will be shown on ORF SPORT + and ORF ON.

The national team made a promising start against France. Laura Leitner put her team ahead after just under seven minutes, but the lead did not last long. France equalised just under a minute later and used their second power play to make it 2:1 in the 16th minute.

The French controlled the game at times and created more scoring chances overall than Austria, who rested captain Anna Meixner in their final World Championship test. The red-white-red side trailed 1:3 midway through the second period. They were also unable to respond in the final period. France ultimately prevailed 4:1.

Goalscorer Laura Leitner: "We gave everything, but unfortunately it was not enough in the end. We stuck together, fought hard and gave everything we had. The goal was good for me and the team. I just shot, and the goal also gave us a boost at the start."
