Austria's women lose first friendly against the Nether­lands in Zell am See

The women's clash with the Netherlands got off to a spectacular start. Tamina Schall gave Austria an early lead in the 1st minute, which they took into the first break.

The visitors eventually equalised midway through the second period. They will also be one of Austria's opponents at the World Championship Division IA in Klagenfurt in April. The Netherlands took a 2:1 lead in the 47th minute. Head Coach Alexander Bröms took a risk at the end and pulled goaltender Selma Luggin. Instead of finding an equaliser, Austria conceded the 1:3 into the empty net in the 60th minute.

Tamina Schall, Best Player:"We said that we would start the game strongly, that we wanted to keep the pace high from the outset and be first to the puck. Unfortunately, we were unable to do that for 60 minutes. Naturally, we're a little down right now, but we'll sleep on it and get the win tomorrow."

Head Coach Alexander Bröms:"It's a little frustrating. We had a good start and went into the game with a lot of energy. After that, we made it a little too easy for the Netherlands and found it difficult to get back into the game. The Netherlands, with their physically strong and rather disruptive style of play, were difficult to play against. It is important that we find our focus and our game with a view to our home World Championship."
