While Germany are searching for their Olympic squad, Austria fielded several debutants and are using the December break to broaden their options ahead of the World Championship in the Top Division in a year’s time.
The young Austrian selection defended with all their strength against the hosts’ relentless attacks. They could rely on Selma Luggin in goal, who was also named Austria’s best player. She made 19 saves in the first period alone. She was powerless only when Mathilda Heine scored at 16 minutes.
Little changed in the middle period. Austria battled tenaciously, while Germany held the upper hand. Germany’s greater experience then showed in the final period. They recorded 29:8 shots on goal in the final 20 minutes alone and sealed the result. Franziska Feldmeier made it 2:0 at 46 minutes, before Svenja Vogt scored the final 3:0 while shorthanded.
