Following narrow defeats against Slovakia and Hungary in overtime, the ÖEHV team fell 0:1 behind against the DEB side after just under five minutes through a goal by Annika Stephainski (6 minute). As against Slovakia, the U18 women were unable to score over the remainder of the game.
Head Coach Mario Bellina knows after the final game against Germany where improvements need to be made ahead of the World Championship in January: "We wanted to build on our performances in the two previous games. In the first period, the Germans took a bit of the wind out of our sails; they showed a little more willingness to skate than we did. We then stabilised. We had chances and created opportunities – not too many, but they were really good. Scoring is definitely an issue that we need to improve at the next camp, as is creating even more chances. We saw that if we do not fulfil what we need to do, we run into problems. We need to get that under control. We need to remain consistent and maintain a good pace."
After the turn of the year, Austria will head to Budapest for the World Championship. Their opponents at the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women's World Championship Division IA, from 05 January to 11 January 2025, will be Germany, Italy, Hungary, France and Norway.
