Austria's U18 team suffer defeat to hosts Hungary in Budapest!

Austria started the game against Hungary with netminder Gabriel Lemberger and fell 0:1 behind after exactly 51 seconds through a goal by Sebestyén Bencze. Shortly afterwards, the Red-White-Reds had two opportunities with the man advantage, but unfortunately could not find a goal in the early stages.

The penalty kill worked well, with Austria unscathed through three shorthanded situations in the opening period. Another power play followed two and a half minutes before the first buzzer, but they were unable to capitalise on it.

In the second period, the Austrians were not clinical enough in front of the opposition goal during a total of five power plays – briefly even with a 5:3 advantage as the final two overlapped. In the final minute, the ÖEHV side then survived a difficult spell with a 3:5 disadvantage and carried the remaining penalty time into the final period.

There, the Austrians took four further consecutive penalties and Hungary capitalised on a 5:3 advantage. Once again, it was Sebestyén Bencze who made it 2:0 (at 55). Exactly two minutes before the end, Miklós István Gyulai sealed the result with an empty-net goal for 3:0 (at 59).
