Austria's U18 men lose 2:6 to World Cham­pi­onship rivals Denmark

Austria began their final game at Jelgavas Ledus Halle against World Championship rivals Denmark with Leandro Djuric in goal and got off to a dream start: following a quick attack, Leon Kolarik placed the puck in the short-side top corner to make it 1:0 after exactly 45 seconds (1 min).

The two teams then contested an even first period, in which one power play apiece had no impact on the scoreline. 42 seconds before the first buzzer, Linus Rørth equalised at 1:1 from close range (20 min).

Just under four minutes into the second period, Denmark took the lead for the first time, with Oliver Larsen making it 2:1 from the slot (25 min). Denmark added another, as Linus Rørth scored on the power play to make it 3:1 (30 min). 59 seconds later, Gerrit Böhs pulled one back to make it 2:3 from a tight angle (31 min).

Denmark then pulled away to 6:2 with three consecutive goals – including two in the space of 19 seconds from Albert Grossmann (34 min) and Elias Borup Olsen (35 min). Oliver Green scored Denmark's sixth goal 28 seconds before the end of the period (40 min). Martin Haim took over in goal for the final period. Neither team scored again, as Austria lost the game 2:6 and finished fourth and last at the Four Nations Tournament in Jelgava.

Austria compete in the U18 World Championship Division I, Group A and, following their sensational bronze medal in Frederikshavn last year, will be looking to make their mark again in Szekesfehervar in April 2025.
