Austria’s U16 Women’s National Team loses opening game against Norway in Zeltweg
Austria’s U16 women’s ice hockey national team is competing in a four-nations tournament in Zeltweg during the IIHF February break. The ÖEHV selection lost its opening match against Norway 2:4 on Thursday.

The team led by Head Coach Tomas Kala and his Assistant Coaches Alessandra Lopez and Lena Wurzer made a flying start to the tournament: Johanna Sintschnig scored the 1:0 on the power play after 58 seconds at the Aichfeldhalle (1.). Unfortunately, Austria were unable to add another goal thereafter.
In the second period, Norway turned the game around with three goals in just under ten minutes to make it 3:1. Austria were back in the game right at the start of the final period. Once again, it was Johanna Sintschnig who pulled one back to make it 2:3 with her second goal after exactly 58 seconds (41.).
Elvira Stavnes made it 4:2 ten minutes from time (51.). Austria were unable to turn the game around and lost their opening match. Red-White-Red return to action against Poland, who claimed a narrow 2:1 win over Germany, from 16:00 on Friday. The tournament concludes on Saturday with the perennial prestige clash against Germany from 12:30.
