Austria’s U16 women’s national team lose 1:4 to Poland in Zeltweg
Austria’s U16 women’s ice hockey national team are competing in a four-nation tournament in Zeltweg during the IIHF February break. Following their opening match against Norway on Thursday, the ÖEHV selection also lost their second game against Poland, 1:4. Germany await in Saturday’s finale.

As against Norway, Austria took an early 1:0 lead against Poland. Johanna Sintschnig picked up where she had left off against the Norwegians, scoring her third goal of the tournament and accounting for all three Austrian goals to date (4').
Poland equalised on their first power play, with Malgorzata Zakrzewska beating ÖEHV goaltender Tibelia Hirner for 1:1 (15'). Malgorzata Zakrzewska then put Poland 2:1 ahead with 18 seconds remaining in the first period (20').
Nicola Rakowska extended the visitors’ lead to 3:1 early in the second period (22'). Just under five minutes before the end of the period, Antonina Maciolek made it 4:1 to Poland on the power play. Poland controlled proceedings in the final period, conceded no further goals and celebrated their second win in two games with the 4:1 result.
Austria’s U16 side conclude the tournament on Saturday with the perennial prestige clash against Germany, starting at 12:30. The DEB selection lost their opening game against Poland 1:2 and suffered a 1:3 defeat to Norway on Friday.
