Austria’s U16 suffer a 0:3 defeat to France in Klagenfurt

Austria’s U16 men’s national ice hockey team suffered a 0:3 defeat to France on the second matchday of the Four-Nations Tournament in Klagenfurt, following their win over Norway.

The game remained scoreless for a long time at the Heidi Horten Arena, before France scored for 1:0 on the power play in the second period (35). Just 45 seconds later, Les Bleus made it 2:0.

In the final period, the ÖEHV selection pressed for a goal back, but were unable to find one. The French scored into the empty net 23 seconds before the final siren to seal the 3:0 final score.

Head Coach Florian Mühlstein: "For the 0:1, it was not entirely clear whether the puck was actually in the net. We conceded the second goal while shorthanded and the third into the empty net. Unfortunately, we completely slept through the first period and took too many penalties throughout the game. From the second period onwards, we were clearly the better team, had six breakaways, but could not get the puck into the net. That is what we need to work on. Now it is time to cool down; Germany await us tomorrow."
