Germany, who had beaten France on Thursday and Norway on Friday before their direct clash with Austria, took a 1:0 lead on the power play in the first period.

After a scoreless middle period, the German selection extended their lead to 2:0 on another power play early in the third period. Austria responded quickly, with Maximilian Petritsch firing from the left face-off circle to score the 1:2 goal just 41 seconds later (43.).

The game remained tense until the closing stages before taking a perfect turn: Head Coach Florian Mühlstein pulled goalkeeper Martin Haim for a sixth skater. The gamble paid off: Luca Fischer sent Austria into overtime with a well-placed shot from the right face-off circle 47 seconds before the end of regulation (60.).

In three-on-three play, Paul Vaschauner forced the puck over the line 56 seconds before the end of overtime for the 3:2 winning goal (65.). Following the 2:1 win over Norway in their opener, Austria celebrated their second victory at the Four Nations Tournament in Klagenfurt.

Florian Mühlstein: "It was a good game. We were a little asleep in the first period and did not start well. We battled our way back into the game through the small things, made a few adjustments and the boys really showed heart. We then got the equaliser and went into overtime. Our trip to South Korea really helped us there. Paul Vaschauner in particular, who was also the top scorer in South Korea, had incredible drive towards the net. Martin Haim was very reliable in goal. Overall, the goaltenders have been very solid throughout the tournament. We have not conceded more than two goals in any game. Our only problem is our scoring efficiency. That is what we need to work on."
