Austria’s women’s national ice hockey team narrowly lost 1:2 to Slovakia in overtime in the first of two test matches. Verena Haselsteiner gave her team a 1:0 lead at the start of the final period, but the visitors levelled the score at 1:1 just under four minutes later. After an even first period, the Austrian side encountered some difficulties following the first change of ends and were fortunate at times to keep a clean sheet. However, the final period largely belonged to the Austrians, who created several good chances.

Verena Haselsteiner was on hand early in the 42nd minute to score for 1:0. This also brought greater confidence to their game, particularly in their own zone, where they were strong and allowed little apart from the equaliser in the 45th minute. Towards the end, they missed the chance to score the winner, having two power plays in quick succession. Instead, it was the Slovaks who celebrated after scoring the winner in overtime.

Head Coach Alexander Bröms: "The first period was OK. We struggled a little in the second, but were able to regroup quickly after the break. The final 20 minutes were definitely our best tonight; we did a good job in our own zone and created good chances. These are the games we need, in which we have to work for the full 60 minutes to earn a win. We know what awaits us tomorrow and will go out there, give everything and hopefully finish the team camp with a win."
